Flu 2019-2020 : New vaccine? How to do this?

Have you ever heard of it? That’s right, yes! Virus mutation… The flu is getting worse.

The flu comes back every year with its lot of symptoms … Especially feared as winter approaches. The virus attacks the airways and spreads throughout the body, not to be taken lightly. But, don’t panic! Don’t panic! We explain to you why and how right here :

We had already told you about the moderately effective vaccines for the winter of 2019, now there is a new vaccine that would be more useful.

Indeed, on March 22, 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the composition of the new influenza vaccine, beginning of the vaccination campaign on October 15, 2019, an annual vaccination is essential.

This vaccine will protect us from 4 types of viruses:

  • A virus of type A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1) pdm09;
  • A virus of type A/Singapore/INFIMH-16-0019/2016 (H3N2);
  • A virus of type B/Colorado/06/2017 (line B/Victoria/2/87);
  • A virus of type B/Phuket/3073/2013 (line B/Yamagata/16/88).

How to prevent influenza?

The Ministry of Health and Public Health reminds us of the importance of so-called “barrier” actions:

  • Sneeze into your elbow rather than your hands to avoid spreading the virus.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or with a hydroalcoholic solution.
  • Use a single-use tissue.
  • Wear a disposable mask, especially when in contact with fragile people.
  • Pay attention to symptoms and monitor temperature.

Patch thermometers such as the Tucky thermometer allow children to be monitored at night if there is a suspicion of fever, and to react as quickly as possible.

Am I immune quickly?

It takes about fifteen days between vaccination and the time the body is protected. So don’t wait until the first frosts or the beginning of the epidemic to run to your doctor.

Exactly, is it only at my doctor’s or can I get a vaccine?

At your doctor’s office or at the pharmacy, all you need to do is present a voucher for your health insurance. The vaccine is 100% reimbursed but only for the weakest people.

What are these people? Is my baby entitled to it free of charge?

  • People aged 65 and over, or with certain chronic diseases,
  • Pregnant women,
  • Obese people,
  • The environment of infants at risk of severe influenza.

What are the risks if there is no vaccination?

Influenza is a disease that is often underestimated, but it is particularly serious for people at risk. It affects between 2 and 6 million people every winter!

Complications may occur:

  • Severe bacterial lung infection (or pneumonia),
  • Worsening of a chronic disease (diabetes, heart failure…).
